I’ve noticed a large number of questions about Disco 2 tyre sizes on forums. So I thought I would collect some available information in one handy place. Please correct me if any of this is wrong!
It won’t go into the debate on brands, plys etc.

The standard Disco 2 tyres in SA are:
GS = 7j rims fitted with 235/70/16, XS = 8j rims fitted with 255/65/16, ES = 8j rims fitted with 255/55/18.

The serpentine belt

Posted: May 14, 2012 in Discovery II

My belt was showing signs of cracking so it was time to replace.

I got a new belt from Dover Parts. I think it was in the region of R180. I was asked if I had ACE or not, so I assume the belt for vehicles with the ACE system use a different belt

“The modern On Board Diagnostic system was invented in the USA and routinely
installed in all cars sold new in that country from 1996. The first stage

engine cars sold new from 2004 when is was called
OBD2.”

This post is slightly off the beaten track. But relevant for 4×4 enthusiasts.
In South Africa one of the most comprehensive set of offroad tracks available is Tracks4Africa.
Now these tracks are made primarily for Garmin navigation devices.
Unfortunately I have a tom tom :(
Now I also have a Android smartphone with built in GPS, so I thought surely one can convert Garmin T4A maps to some other format and use that?

My water pump was leaking around the gasket. So it was time to replace. It might

also have been the culprit in the high (105 degrees plus) coolant temperatures.

Plus I had been topping up the coolant all the time and had mixed coolant

colours which can apparently be a bad thing.

The engine mounts

Posted: March 12, 2012 in Discovery II

When dropping the engine we discovered the following. I guess the mounts are up for
replacement. It should be something I can do myself.

…continued.

The replacement of the engine mountings is easier than one would imagine. I
believe the TD5 may be a bit more tricky.

Note: This is specific to the V8 so I’m not sure how much applies to the TD5.

My vehicle has recently started showing signs of getting too warm. So I thought I would dive into the ins and outs of the cooling system.

Its all pretty well explained in RAVE. So I won’t re-iterate everything. Read the rest of this entry »
